Role by Design respects your privacy. This notice explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we store it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Who we are
Role by Design is a consulting and recruitment practice for the Australian not-for-profit sector, founded by Duncan Schieb. We provide board, governance, fundraising and role design services, and recruitment and search. You can reach us at duncan@rolebydesign.com.au.
What we collect
- When you use the contact form, we collect your name, email address, your message, and, if you choose to give them, your organisation and phone number.
- When you ask us to send you the sector research findings, we collect your name, email address and, if you give it, your organisation. We use it to send you the findings, and for occasional updates only if you separately tick that box.
- When you join our talent network, we collect the details you send us so we can contact you about roles.
- When you engage us for consulting services, we collect the information needed to deliver the engagement, and we treat it confidentially.
- Our fundraiser sector survey is anonymous. We do not ask for your name. If you choose to give an email address at the end, we use it only for the reason you gave it.
- The free board health check on this website stores nothing. Your answers and your score exist only on your screen.
Why we collect it
- To reply to your enquiry and provide our services.
- To contact you about roles, if you asked us to.
- To understand the fundraising sector through survey research, using anonymous responses.
We only use your details for the reason you gave them. We do not use them for anything else without your consent.
How your details are handled
Our website is hosted by Netlify, and contact form entries are processed and stored through Netlify Forms. Our surveys, if you take them, are run through Typeform. These providers process data on our behalf and may store it outside Australia. We keep the personal details we hold only for as long as we need them, then we delete them.
We do not sell your data
We never sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
Your choices and rights
- You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you.
- You can ask us to correct it if it is wrong.
- You can ask us to delete it, and to stop contacting you, at any time.
To make any of these requests, email duncan@rolebydesign.com.au and we will act on it promptly.
Cookies and analytics
When you first visit this site you are asked to make a choice. Nothing in this section happens unless you press Accept.
If you accept, we use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they read, and how they found us. It is loaded through Google Tag Manager, which is also a Google service. It sets cookies and sends data to Google, including outside Australia.
If you decline, it does not load at all. No analytics cookies, and no data sent to Google.
You can change your mind at any time using the Privacy choices link in the footer of any page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
We run no advertising trackers
This site carries no advertising or remarketing pixels. No Meta pixel, no LinkedIn Insight Tag, nothing of that kind. We do not build advertising audiences from people who visit this website, and we do not share your visit with any advertising platform.
Our research pages carry no tracking at all
The sector research page at rolebydesign.com.au/surveys loads no analytics and no tracking tool of any kind, not even the Google Analytics described above. This is deliberate. We ask people to answer questions about their working lives on a promise of anonymity, and it would not be right to measure them while doing it.
The only thing that page passes on is a short label showing which link brought you there, for example whether you arrived from an email or a social post. That label is attached to the survey, not to you. It contains nothing that identifies you, and it is not shared with anybody.
Overseas disclosure
Accepting analytics means information about your visit may be handled by Google in countries including the United States, which do not have privacy laws equivalent to Australia's. If you would rather that did not happen, decline. Nothing on this site is withheld from you for declining.
Direct marketing and how to stop it
We only send marketing to people who asked for it. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and you can write to duncan@rolebydesign.com.au at any time and ask to be removed. We will act on it promptly and we will not ask you why.
Complaints
If you are concerned about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first so we can put it right. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
